White trim looks the best if you are painting the main house in a fresh color as opposed to a muted color. If you are choosing a white for the trim , go for the very whitest white or it will look dingy. White trim , white siding, and white railings give this farmhouse spick-and-span appeal.


Currently house is light grey blue, white trim ,with burgundy door. Here the trim is just slightly lighter than the main house color. Paint all vertical and horizontal trim elements that suggest structure in the main trim color. Window and door frames usually look better painted in the principal body color. My house is vinyl siding which is light blue (almost grey from far) with white trim. Shutter is white and garage door is also white. White is a classic, but choose the wrong shade and you’ll end up with a very expensive mistake. I think the grey will be gorgeous with white trim , very classic and it does leave you with lots of options for accent colors. I always sample the paint on a piece of poster board so I can move it around to check the color against the brick, the front door, etc. I don’t have million little patches of paint all over the house. Go ahead and put it right out there—on your house. The color usually appears in one of its more somber versions on exteriors, where it can almost act as a neutral in its grayer tones.


It was nice, however, not as big of a contrast as I would have liked.
