Finger jointed studs

We use finger - jointed studs for a number of reasons. For starters, they’re straighter. And they’re a better use of material because less wood is being wasted to manufacture them.

Mike, I have had no experience with finger jointed framing studs so I will withhold comment. I have had a lot of problems with finger jointed brick mold casing used on exterior windows and doors. They stay stable during building not like the non finger-jointed studs that continue to move thru out the construction process, this requires that you go thru and check out the walls to see which studs need cut and blocked or replaced. Charlie : Jackie in Conroe says she’s having a house built, and the builder is using finger jointed 2×studs for the interior framing. I think the only place the use of finger jointed 2x is allowed is for vertical studs in walls. In this application the board will be in compression, pushing the fingers togther. Over here, when I ring up my suppliers and ask for foots studs for example, then a extremely good chance that they will be finger jointed. We use them for the entire house, extension whatever.
