Shiplap fireplace

A round black mirror is mounted to shiplap trim between two Boston Functional Library Wall Lights lighting a chunky reclaimed wood mantle fixed above a fireplace accented with a slate surround. When we moved into our new home we had this huge problem. Yes, all the way up to the foot ceiling.

Shiplap Fireplace is rated 2. This project was a beast that took us many months to complete but it is absolutely and completely finished and I couldn’t be more excited! I was shocked at how beautiful the material was, looks just like rustic barn wood and goes beautifully in our home! Once the shiplap and tile were added to the fireplace , it was time to add the finishing touch – a DIY mantel. It truly turned out better than it looked in my mind and I feel like a little kid who just got the coolest toy ever.

This is a shot from the Magnolia BB on HGTV’s Fixer Upper. I saw it and immediately fell in love with the idea of doing the fireplace in shiplap. We didn’t want to replace the actual fireplace insert we have, although one of these days we are painting the brass on it! Sometimes good things come to those who wait. This just so happened to be the case when it came to the design of my client’s fireplace.

Cut boards to size using a miter saw. The original fireplace brick was painted white and shiplap paneling with a natural wood mantel was installed. It was a easy DIY project. The living room is staged with French Country accessories, books, and bright linen window treatments. During our renovation of the room we opted to build out the area above the fireplace with a shiplap treatment to balance the same detail across the room, where the shiplap is disguising some structural supports.

So, needless to say, when we considered a shiplap wall, the chance to cover a wall instead of patching and painting was unbelievably welcome! I recently used The Home Depot’s shiplap appearance boards to give my fireplace a major makeover. I was pretty blown away at how simple it was to install (I’d consider myself a beginner when it comes to power tools, but I did the entire makeover by myself!) and the fireplace makeover is absolutely incredible.

Use your level to make sure it is level and now nail it in place making sure you nail through the wall studs.

The mantel and fireplace in the newly renovated living room was originally in the century-old building next door. Once you shiplap something, you’ll start looking around your house wondering what you can shiplap next. After we finished ship-lapping our staircase, (Tutorial HERE) I quickly decided the fireplace had to be next. I am curious about the 1×you put on the wall before you put in the imitation shiplap. Jon framed in the fireplace surround and painted it white.

He then used 8″ strips of plywood and trim to create the look of shiplap on either side of the fireplace and above it. A fireplace should be the focal point of your home. Somewhere you want to cozy up next to in the winter and where you want to decorate and love.

I thought it was the greatest discovery ever. All in all, this shiplap was a pretty quick weekend project with a big impact!

Just cut boards, nail them up, and add a few coats of paint. Now the whole fireplace has a strong presence and sense of style. Better, but I still wasn’t in love with it.

Also my kids were getting older so I didn’t need the chalkboard over the fireplace anymore. I decided to put up faux or fake shiplap over the mantel to cover the holes instead of fabric over foam. Finally, we decided on cedar shiplap above the fireplace.

I had to build myself a structure to apply the shiplap against. The fireplace protrudes into the room by the. When remodeling older homes. It seems everyone is hot for this look and I love it too!
