Spalted tamarind

The pale yellow sapwood is very wide and sharply demarcated from the heartwood. Spalting and other discoloration are very common in the sapwoo and the majority of the Tamarind available in the United States is spalted sapwood. Much of this wood comes from logs that were either found on the forest floor or were cut and then allowed to spalt in the very damp warm conditions of the jungle. The rotting effect on Tamarind creates the spalted look that varies from piece to piece. Popular wood for turnery and other fine woodworkings.
