Check the ignition switch and its wiring (See Inspecting the ignition system). To check that the solenoid is delivering current to the starter motor, connect the test lamp between the output terminal of the solenoid (leading to the starter ) and earth, preferably the battery earth terminal. Working the starter switch should light the lamp. The working process has been introduced before in Starting System Wiring Diagram) 2. Starter Solenoid Wiring Diagram – Without Starter Relay Type. To protect the ignition switch, lots of modern cars apply the starter relay to control the starter solenoid.


The starter solenoid wiring diagram with starter relay shows in the following Fig. If there’s no wire already connected and you have to use yours, make sure you connect it to the terminal marked S on the starter solenoid. Step Find the thin pair of wires from the ignition switch circuit. The solenoid is a large switch that sends power to the starter to start the truck. Once the truck is running, there is no power on the starter side.


The wire from the alternator goes to the battery cable side. That is probably why your battery did not charge. Correct placement of wires on the Classic Ford starter solenoid. Also shows the correct placement of the power wires for accessories.


How To Install a Pertronix Ignitor Ignition System Classic. Currently the wire on the right of the solenoid goes to the Rt terminal on the push button start in the car. The left terminal has a wire going up to the left side of the coil which is paired with a wire from the distributor and a wire that goes to the ignition through. It receives an electric current from both the ignition switch as well as the battery.


The small electric current from the ignition switch forces the solenoid to clamp together a pair of heavy contacts. With solenoid facing you, the large terminal on the left is the battery feed. The small terminal on the left is the start signal wire from the ignition switch. This one appears to be OK.


The big cable is the main power for the starter motor. If you test your starter solenoid and find that it’s ba you’ll need to replace it in order to start the vehicle again. The ignition switch start I have it running to s on the starter solenoid.


I have uploaded picture of a wiring setup found when searching for ballast resistor wiring. The red wire is the wire between the ignition switch and starter solenoid. Separate the bullets pull the end that is against the fender well up toward the grounding pod.

It usually is long enough to attach directly to the new relay coil terminal. The starter is actually an assembly that includes an electric motor and solenoid. The secondary starter circuit sends power to the solenoid , which in turn connects the primary electrical circuit to the electric motor itself, internally within the solenoid.


On the back side of the ignition switch there is a white plug with five or six wires. Clearly the small terminal is for the Lt Blue ignition switch wire. From the ignition switch, voltage is sent to the starter solenoid.

I installed a new starter and the wire that goes from the solenoid to the ignition switch has an inline fuse that blows every time I try to start. I am concerned for not having a R on my coil. Do not wire this to the column. Solenoid was fine so I cut back harness, took out fried wire , re wired and replaced starter.


Everything seems happy now. Thanks to all those that helped me troublshoot this it really helped me isolate and locate the problem. It is the yellow wire from the ignition switch to the neutral safety switch and then purple wire from the neutral safety switch to the S terminal on the starter solenoid. The yellow wire from the ignition switch should have volts when the ignition key is turned to the START position. When you turn the key, the solenoid engages, using the electrical motor in the starter to get your engine running.


Connect the large red wire that runs to the starter to one of the large terminals on the tractor solenoid. Some terminals may be labeled. Connect the second large red wire , which runs to the battery, to the second large terminal on the solenoid. The battery cable attaches to the near side large post.


The cable to the starter goes to the opposite large post. All the remaining wires go on the battery cable side. Locate the starter solenoid and refer to its circuit, provided in a car manual. Disconnect the wire , that runs from ignition switch to the solenoid. In order to test the solenoid , use insulated pliers or a screwdriver to short the big post on it, with the ignition switch terminal on the same.


Solenoid may be frie I would disconnect the wore coming off the solenoid to the starter. If it still gets hot, then you know it is from the solenoid back. It gets the power from the battery.


If you turn the ignition key to the ON position, there is a small electric current that passes thorough the solenoid.
