Brown coat stucco

This acts as an ideal base for the finish coat , which is integrally colored (in most cases) and is what you see on stucco , so the base needs to be uniform. Characteristics: The brown coat surface is much smoother than the scratch coat and is gritty to the touch but flatter and looks more appealing than the scratch. Complies with ASTM C 9requirements for cement based plaster. After the cement is on the wall, a scratcher is used to make horizontal lines in the stucco mix, in order for the next coat (the brown coat ) to stick to it. This product also can be used as the first coat in a two- coat application for exterior stucco applications.

With Eisenwall we can apply the scratch and brown coat in one pass and are ready for the finish stucco in hours. For a small difference in price, Eisenwall is an inexpensive insurance premium to pay, to ensure crack resistance, lower shrinkage, improved strength, durability and vandal resistance. The two base coats of plaster are either hand-applied or machine sprayed.

The traditional application of stucco and lath occurs in three coats — the scratch coat , the brown coat and the finish coat. The finish coat can be troweled smooth, hand-texture floated to a sand finish or sprayed. Traditional, or 3- coat stucco is applied over the lath in three thin coats : the scratch coat , the brown coat , and the finish coat.
