Walnut stump

I plan to get a couple of loads of crotch wood. The real question is the stumps. Is the stump wood worth the effort? We gave a large walnut stump to a freind of ours that was a wood sculpter. Question I am digging out the stump of a recently cut walnut tree to experiment with in my wood working.

I need some guidance to cut and dry to wood to minimize cracking of the wood. That is a pretty good sized walnut ! I am anxious to see how this works out. I have a walnut that died last year that is around the same size.
