The black wire (hot wire ) coming in from the left is the source power. It is tied together with a wire going to the switch and the black wire going to the outlet. The red wire (switched hot wire ) going to the outlet , wires into the other side of the switch and the white wires (neutral), tie together to complete the return side of the circuit.

A standard electrical outlet has two brass terminal screws, two chrome ones and a single ground terminal, which is green. Currently the kitchen has a garbage disposal, and no dishwasher. Then, wires are run from the breaker box to the desired location, where they are attached to a receptacle or wired directly to an appliance. Most modern 220-volt wiring involves either a three- or four- wire configuration. The out on the switch would go to the light fixture.


Make sure to connect ground if there. If you did the switch before the outlet , both would then be switched.
