The painted shiplap accent walls that I saw were not just limited to these dark rich colors. Paint the wall the color you plan to paint the shiplap. This step varies in importance depending on which kind of shiplap you are installing. If you are doing the faux planks ( like we did here ) then you will see the wall between every boar and painting it beforehand is so much easier then painting it afterward.


We painted all the shiplap in our house BM White Dove (including the shiplap we used as our kitchen backsplash.) It is available in random or specific widths and various colors (primarily Red and White) and textures. It’s best to paint shiplap before putting it up, at least the groove part of the board. I learned this the hard way when building.


Since we weren’t using a sprayer to paint our walls, it was impossible to get the paint in the grooves with a roller and brush. So I ended up buying a cheap sprayer to paint the grooves. Traditionally, shiplap wall boards are painted white or light pastel colors. However, a new trend is encouraging the use of stripped and stripped and stained boards instead—and the are beautiful.
