This type of plywood grade is a good choice for projects where you will ultimately cover the plywood panel with some other type of cover material - like a smoother MDF sheet. A typical plywood grade would be A-1. This means that the plywood would have an “ A” grade face with a “1” back.
A-and B-plywood grades are typically the grades most often used in ½” and thicker panels for cabinet work. The most common grade used in ¼” panels is A-4. BC- grade is a mix grade plywood with one side graded a B, while the other side is graded a C. In the United States, there are four basic softwood (construction) plywood veneer grades you need to worry about: A, B, C and D. Occasionally, you may run into a fifth grade called “C-plugged.
Each sheet will have two grades , such as AC. The first letter is the face veneer grade , and the second is for the back veneer. So, AC grade plywood will be installed with the A side visible. Marine- grade plywood is a specially designed panel made of Douglas fir or Western Larch, according to the APA-The Engineered Wood Association. All plies may have knots, but no knotholes. Face veneers are considered clear and free of defects with a light-uniform color. The marine plywood is only available in A- A grade.
