Feather finish concrete

It may be applied over most surfaces for a smooth finish before installation of permanent flooring. Installs from feather edge to any depth. I wasn’t planning on preparing food directly on this surface, so being food safe wasn’t the most important for me. It mixes the same, with the ratio of 1:(water to powder.) At first I thought using a mudding pan would work for mixing, but I quickly switched to the temporary buckets. But they are still a bit of a DIY maverick and not much has been written about their durability, so there’s a valid concern from anyone curious about giving these a shot.

You pretty much have one chance to smooth out or else you have to wait until it dries to sand over and apply a new layer. I misread a blog post two years ago! Yes…us DIYers do make mistakes and this one I was completely to blame. Designed by Maria 151views. Allow the primer to dry thoroughly (to hours), and proceed with the installation of the adhesive.

It’s not easy to come by, but you can hunt for a local distributor on their site or just follow this affiliate link to get it on Amazon. I think we applied it a bit thicker than necessary. In gathering our ideas for the new studio space, we realized that we would finally have a chance to try our own concrete countertop DIY. We loved reading about this DIY countertop last year and were so impressed that we wanted to try it ourselves.

There are several videos on on these feather finish concrete counter tops. Basically, it is a repair compound that we hand trowel down on the floor to give a unique finish. To smoothly, seamlessly blend the edge of a topping or repair material into the existing concrete.

Tiny filaments made of polypropylene, polyolefin, nylon, polyethylene, polyester, or acrylic used alone or in conjunction with rebar or welded wire mesh to reinforce concrete. Next, we mixed up the feather finish. At first, the mixture was “whipped” a bit too forcefully and the initial layer of concrete had a few bubbles. After that, we made sure to stir slowly and gently and we didn’t have anymore issues with bubbles.

I used to use this clear coat paint tinting technique often with decoupage and antiquing furniture and various applications but I know you can’t really add any actual tint to the feather finish concrete mix itself and adding anything to it does effect its integrity a lot. I don’t see why it wouldn’t work on a counter the same way. Doing these concrete countertops was the most challenging projects we took on (besides refinishing the floors of course) but also one of my favorites.

In doing my research, I came across a process for applying a concrete overlay on top of existing countertops. You want to make sure the concrete has something to grab onto. Mix the feather finish up. You want it the consistency of peanut butter, or maybe slightly more runny.

You will want to apply the feather finish around the inside rim of your sink (wherever the solid surface countertop is). This is another place to add in more concrete than what you’ll actually nee so you can sand it down to a smooth surface later. I figured I might as well go buy the concrete material.

There was only one stipulation for this challenge… the project had to use concrete in some form or fashion! Well, there was my sign folks! It was time to take the plunge and try my hand at playing with concrete ! Feather Finish Concrete Dining Table Makeover!
