What should I use to overlay a particle board. Cut Damaged Subfloor : Set a circular saw to the proper depth, so it cuts just through the thickness of the particle board , and make the cuts. Remove Damaged Subfloor : Use a flat pry bar to remove the damaged particle board. Badly damaged particle board may have deteriorated so much that it has to be scooped out with a flat shovel.

Particle board is denser than OSB and has limited uses. None of the products should ever be used as a sub-floor. Many pre fab and mobile homes use particle board for subfloors.


The problem with tile is the mortar. When you spread mortar on particle board , it can absorb the liquid and swell, popping some of the tiles. Doesn’t always happen, but can. And for hard woo it needs a secure sub floor to nail into.


It is NOT suitable to use as a structural subfloor material. The materials are combine heated and pressed together to form sheets. This type of subflooring needs to be stored in a dry environment and sealed before installation to maintain its integrity.


When used as flooring sub-floor or underlayment,. OSB: Oriented-strand board looks like large flakes of wood compacted together into a sheet. In comparison to the other wood in price,the partical board worked very well. Simply put, particle board is a waste-wood product made by heat pressing wood chips, sawmill shavings, or even sawdust and resin together. Since particle board is relatively weak, it is possible that fasteners will pull through the underlayment and be left in the floor.

Step – Removing Fasteners and Mortar. Remove fasteners left in the subfloor using the super bar. Gently remove any mortar on the subfloor using the floor scraper.


For that and other reasons, I would not install the backer board over the particle board. A disclaimer might or might not protect you from liability. Vinyl flooring is usually not installed directly over the subfloor in residential applications. In most cases 4-by-8-foot sheets of particle board or plywood must be installed in preparation for the vinyl floor install.

If you must install over such surfaces, it is best to install a backer board over the old surface and install the tile on the backer board. If you just apply the primer or sealer on the subfloor , make sure the TrafficMaster Allure is installed correctly.


The biggest thing that can ruin a wooden subfloor is the edge not being sealed properly. This is the area where the moulding meets the floor. Very rare to see particle board underlayment in a kitchen or a bath. ISSUE:the particle board just crumbles when I try to pry it up and so far I. Could particle board be used as a subfloor for hardwood floors? I know moisture is the problem so is there a sealer that could possibly be used?


Chipboar also known as particle board , is typically used as subflooring or in areas that are hidden from view.
