Original Wood Finish is commonly used by woodworking. I used this product on a vintage military rifle stock. It gave me the I was looking for: a good protective finish without an unnatural, glossy look.

I think I would recommend getting some and testing it out on a piece of light colored wood , the same as the table if possible, and seeing what you think. Linseed oil does not cover the surface as varnish does, but soaks into the (visible and microscopic) pores, leaving a shiny but not glossy surface that shows off the grain of the wood. This is an area where there is a lot of marketing spin out there. I highly recommend that you read as much as you can about this type of finish and test out all sorts of brands. Varnish Oil is highly polymerized linseed oil fortified with natural resin varnish.


And yes, it is all natural. I have a birch walking staff that I merely peeled the bark from and scraped smooth. They are solvent free, zero VOC,. This is a semi-gloss topcoat that builds durability and sheen with each application.


This finish provides excellent protection against water and liquids, and is a blend of linseed oil and beeswax. With the TT, I applied a fairly thin coat using a brush, let it sit for a while, then wiped off the excess and left it to dry. Once dry, I had a gorgeous, smooth finish ! I could probably just go with shellac, but thought I would see if anyone had experience with the T and T. I have found one company that offers a linseed oil-based product that is purportedly food safe, as well as a few furniture- finish quality products. It dries and soaks in but would probably take 1coats to build up and I doubt it.
