As promise I’m sharing how we DIY’d our shiplap walls in the dining room. I’ve seriously considered putting shiplap walls in every room of our home. But, alas, I must restrain myself (for now) and settle for just the dining room and the fireplace. Man, the project gods were NOT on my side this weekend y’all.


Remember when we were all into the board and batten wall treatment a few years ago? Everyone did it including me, and there were a zillion DIY tutorials published on the web. This shiplap tutorial is not actually real shiplap, but is much cheaper. I have seen real shiplap and I honestly can’t tell the difference between the real tongue and groove and plywood.

I bet they used the same bender board you used to mimic Ship lap. If in the middle of the shiplap , drill a hole inside the cut space, put your jigsaw blade in the drilled out hole, and then cut over to your lines. This wall did have outlets that needed to be raised up to the new depth. I found the best product to help with this. Shiplap is an easy and cheap solution!


Today we’re going to walk you through the simple steps on how to install a faux shiplap wall on the cheap. You’ll be amazed by the crazy transformation the faux shiplap wall made in our farmhouse bathroom. Ship Lap Siding is a type of Drop Lap siding with a tight flush joint profile. Nowadays, more often than not, when we refer to shiplap we are simply talking about wood panelling that is hung horizontally.


This staircase is the first thing visitors see when they enter the front door. The diagonal pieces of whitewashed shiplap on each step pair beautifully with the horizontal panels on the wall and create a one-of-a-kind focal point leading your eye to the top of the stairs. My love for shiplap actually predates Fixer Upper and the million Pinterest pins.

I used my version of super cheap shiplap nearly years ago when I renovated my parent’s house! The picture above is their bathroom before and after! I also used this technique on walls in both their kitchen and living room.
