How to frame a door

Frame the rough opening to inches wider than the garage door you have selected. If you are installing a 9′ wide garage door , the opening will be 9’3″ wide. If the door is 7′ tall, frame the opening 7’1.


Door frames are an easy project for those who are equipped with the proper knowledge. First you must plan the location of each entrance, then you must follow a few basic steps to build the doors. Use the lumber to construct the shoe, the studs and the plate.


In addition to being plumb both parallel and perpendicular to the wall, door openings have to be sized for the unit and provide good nailing for drywall and trim.
