How to wire a double switch

I would guess you have a DPST switch (Double-Pole Single-Throw.). OK the switch is a double pole switch. You didnt draw a battery in the pic so do that and run all the negatives of the LEDs to the neg post on battery.

From pos post go to the switch on one side and then directly accross go to the Pos leads. Though it is not difficult to wire a double switch , careful attention to safety is crucial to prevent injury. In a double switch , you want the feed wire from the service panel to be attached to the screws on the side with the connecting tab, to feed both switches.

The connecting tab can be broken off to. I show how to wire a double switch with. You can mount the switches side-by-side in a double -gang electrical box or in different locations, each in a single-gang box.

The required materials are a voltage tester, screwdriver, electrical tape, wire cutter, wire stripper and grounding wrist strap. Installing a double electric switch can be tricky. To begin the installation, verify all the necessary tools are within reach.

Make sure to identify the lea load and ground wires to install the new switch properly. If there are any doubts during the process, an electrician should be consulted. I moved into a house that has a garbage disposal unit connected under the sink and the ON and OFF switch that is nearby.

Step - Wire in the Double Light Switch. Connecting up a double switch light is essentially the same as connecting up a single switch light. Pick up the hot feed wire with some pliers and using your screwdriver join it to the hot connection on the double switch light. This diagram shows two switches in the same box with a separate 1volt source feeding each.

Three- wire cable is supplying the source for the switches with the black and red wires each connecting to the bottom terminal of a switch. Wiring Two Switches in One Box with Sources. Control light fixtures at location with the Leviton Amp Combination Double Switch. This switch easily fits over a standard wall box and is compatible with single-pole applications.

Its space-saving design permits other devices to be installed in the same box and allows for ample working and wiring space. A wire that is bare, green, or yellow (or green with a yellow stripe) is the grounding wire , and the white wire is the neutral wire. In a double light switch setup, you will have multiple wires including one set each light fixture and one set that goes to the breaker box. This represents a change in the NEC code that requires a neutral wire in most new switch boxes.

If you are running a new circuit check the electrical code to understand this and any other updates to the required procedure. In this circuit a split receptacle is controlled by two separate switches. I want to add a fan and a double switch so that i can control the light and fan from the double switch. The breaker for this circut is amp. With the single switch in the off position the white wire is hot.

The neutral wires and the ground wire will stay put. However, there are other uses for a combo switch. Fan goes to one switch brass screw, light to the other. And you will need a neutral at the fan.

If you are getting power to the switch from the fan box, you will need another wire from the fan box to the switch box for hot. The most common use of a double pole switch in lighting is the 4-way ( double pole double throw) switch. It is wired between two 3-way (single pole double throw) switches.

SPST Toggle Switch Wiring. The other terminal is for the output. With a pair of 3-way switches, either switch can make or break the connection that completes the circuit to the light. There is only switch needed.

Please see my diagram for details. I am trying to install a fan and control both the fan and the light from a double switch. The wire goes as follows: In the ceiling I have a black, re white and ground. Ultimately, I would love to thank you very much, due to the fact that you have the satisfaction to drop in this web site.

If you have one switch controlling both loads, then it would appear that you may have a hot wire mixed up with a switch leg somewhere. If these are the only wires that you have coming into the box, they are probably the hot wire (carries the current to the switch ), and two switch leg (feeds the current to the connected loads). We’ll look at single and double switch arrangements and how to wire them, and then look at equivalent circuits using Kari series float switches.

These instructions and diagrams will serve to teach you the basics of float switch control wiring. You are able to control two light fixtures or appliances from one electrical box. A double switch has switch levers in a single housing.
