Although usually referred to as ambrosia maple , this kind of wood is also called ghost maple for its unique appearance. Wood is typically tan or white in color with streaks of color throughout. This species is moderately hard.


The beautiful greyish-brown streaks in the wood are caused by the ambrosia beetle. The beetles are killed due to the high temperatures in the kiln. Click on image or title to see more information about product.

We have just received new slabs today. Mainly cream colored with greenish blue mineral streaks with worm holes and some black striping. It looks like ambrosia maple can only be found in woods in the eastern US. It has a unique shape with a hole at the top for a handle. The grain has some very nice ambrosia streaks of light and dark coloring.
