Spray paint front door

The hardest part was taping and sealing off the trim around the door. I needed to start with spray painting the trim before I removed the door. I opted to remove the door , just easier to paint that way and opted to spray paint since my door has a lot of raised panels to paint around. For a single exterior door that has been primed you’ll need approximately one quart of paint.


If you do not have a glass or storm door that stands between your door and the elements, you’ll want to make certain you use exterior paint. Now this is just a temporary fix. The shutters in front of the house need to be painte so those are on the to do list along with repainting the door (and the trim) with a true exterior paint. I have screwed up both the front AND the back door with trying to brush on paint ! Not to mention the interior doors.


I have decided that if I ever get the nerve to try again…(was considering it just the other day!) I will have to take it down, sand it, and spray prime and then spray paint it with a spray gun. Last year I painted them with a latex exterior paint and now it’s chipping off and looking awful. I found it easier to tape off and spray paint my front door since it had raised panel and windows. I have an entry door to my house which is one those standard white panel metal doors with a factory finish. Mine is showing age and needs a recoat. I want a nice smooth finish like it has so I want to spray it on. I use for painting machinery. Paint the door from the top down, using a wide brush for corners or crevices and a small roller for flat panels.


Make long strokes with the brush, and clean any visible lines on the front door with a dry cloth. If you are painting with a brush, start by painting the raised panels of your doors , then paint the grooves around the panels. I’m thinking of spray painting my front door hardware as well. Just bought my house in October and I have so many other things I’d rather spend my money on right now! I spray painted interior door hardware in the condo I sold before buying the house. Set up a spray area by covering work area with a drop cloth.

I just finished painting my front door yellow. I had a color picked out, but decided spray paint would be easier and just went with the yellow color the spray paint came in. Not only was spray painting more difficult than I thought, the color was way off.


So now I get to repaint the whole door. ORBed doorknobs are muuuch more expensive to buy than hinges or door plates, which is the good news (so I probably wouldn’t attempt to spray paint hinges like the doorknobs, since I’d worry all that grinding over time would make the paint peel and scrape off).
