Duraspark 2

The module has two plugs coming out of the bottom of the unit. The biggest change, apart from the control box redesign, was the large distributor cap to handle the increased spark energy. A few things should be considered when selecting the parts: Distributors do not physically interchange between a 3and 351W. W engines have a larger oil pump driveshaft.

Duraspark 2

Coupled with either the sock ignition box or an aftermarket control box (such as as the Dyna Module or MSD-6A) it is a tough, readily available, reliable distributor. They feature preterminated wire ends with installed Weatherpack connectors for a quick and easy fit. You can find them for about $52. US retail and the recurve spring kits are cheap at about $7.

I found a lot of guys are running the duraspark box with the gm hei module. Fill Your Cart With Color today! This ignition system is a popular swap into earlier cars and trucks. This is most easily accomplished by making a trip to your favorite junkyard and rounding up all the parts.

Spark plug gaps were widened to take advantage of the heightened current and to prolong spark plug life. I wired it according to the diagrams that are all over the web and according to chiltons and motors manuals which all seem to match. Ford Dura-spark distributor recurving instructions.

In most cases, the distributor will interchange with the older-style points distributor. The noticeable difference is in the size of the cap. The D-I uses a regular cap. Duraspark II Ignition Basics.

I have ran my dura spark II for about years now with out no resistor and have had no problems. I does not use a resistor and the solid state uses a 1. There are some differences in wiring and in the internal electronics of the control box, but either distributor can be effective. Also, with the DuraSpark control, you get a timing retard for starting. Seems to me, the DuraSpark would be the way to go.

We asked for one for a Mustang II w 302. From an idle, drivability, and repsonse stand point, both the boxes used in this article (CDI and IDI) were an improvement over the stock DURASPARK system. Both myself and the staff were very impressed with the easy installation of the Mallory HyFire and the quality and calibration of the Performance Distributors DURASPARK distributor.

A DURASPARK II setup requires full BAT VLT to the module (keyed through IGN SW) and if using a DURASPARK II coil, it (coil) must be run through a resistor. The WH wire is an ignition timing retard to make staring the engine a little easier on the starter motor. The wiring is attached via a special snap-on connector. With the DuraSpark , you can parts at any parts store, Ford dealer or junkyard.

Power is supplied to the coil in the same fashion as the older breaker point ignition. You may have to register before you can post: click the register link above to proceed. The harness will have a terminal on the coil horseshoe that says tach. That is the sensor pickup.

Dyna-Module and Inferno Coil! If using the donor coil make sure to get the horse shoe connector as well, plug wires, plugs, as much wire as you possibly can. It allows for the factory location of your module and coil.

This part is recommended if you are also replacing the chassis harness. It can be used with both the large cap and small cap early electronic distributors. I put my duraspark together for 55$. It took a while to get the parts together, but I was bored and patient. I have looked at a chiltons wiring diagram with little luck.

Mike, Either coil is fine. The other style coil would use ring terminals. Step Mark reluctor position as there are two slots. Remove reluctor from upper advance shaft. Do those half have ignition problems?

I would say maybe the original resistor wire burnt out, it happens, and someone added an external resistor to replace the original which could have been cut out. Again, the ballast resistor is extremely important. Get the carburetor that is on the 2. Does anyone know for 1 ford duraspark voltage Well i put in a summit harness and at the same time did the duraspark upgrade.

Now i ran all the wires pulled the. I have heard that a TFI coil puts out a hotter spark than a standard coil. I still have the TFI coil from the original ignition system.

If I do run the TFI coil, do I still need to run the ballast resistor?
