Flindersia maculosa is a tree in the citrus family. It is found in arid and semi arid areas in New South Wales and Queenslan Australia. Because of the spotted bark, it is known as the leopardwood or leopard tree. The wood itself is a medium to dark reddish brown with grey or light brown rays, which resemble the spots of a leopard. Works easy, except for a tendency to splinter, and takes a very lustrous finish.

This material is straight grained with medium texture. The highly flecked decorative surface makes this wood ideal for furniture and accent work. The figure is most pronounced when the wood is quartersawn. Both show a beautiful and unusual lace-like figure in which little eyes of grain seem to weave in. Fairly difficult to work because of its high density and tendency to tearout during planing.
