Dry wall plaster

Two of the most common forms of interior wall materials are plaster and drywall. Plaster has been used since ancient times. The earliest plaster was usually made of lime, san animal hair and water. Because drywall panels are thinner than plaster walls, drywall is not as effective of a sound barrier. While drywall is a sturdy alternative to plaster , you might want to reinforce your drywall with plaster for stronger walls, greater soundproofing, or an Old World texture.


Whatever the reason, the process is always the same. It is much lighter and easier to repair than plaster. It is also much easier and faster to install, and is fire-resistant.


If the plaster is 3/inch thick — that's pretty common — then cover the areas where the plaster is missing by screwing 3/8-inch drywall to the framing, not the lath alone. Drywall came onto the construction scene in 1916. Pick up some multi-finish plaster and get patching.
