1X6 lumber dimensions

When the board is first rough sawn from the log, it is a true 2x but the drying process and planing of the board reduce it to the finished 1. Dimensional lumber is cut to a specific length, width, and depth. However, there is a difference between the nominal size (what the lumber is referred to) and the actual size. The tables below provide both the nominal and actual sizes so many common North American lumber sizes. The following data is standard reference and size data for commercially available lumber within the USA.

Most lumber is sold in “nominal” (in name only) sizes such as 1× 2× 4×and2xlumber. But these sizes are not the actual 1×dimensions , 2×dimensions , 2×dimensions , 2×dimensions and 4×dimensions of the wood. The chart below shows the actual dimensions of lumber when it is dry (when wet, it will be slightly larger). Most dimensional pressure treated lumber is treated to. CCA but only for use in certain commercial construction applications. Custom sizes and Special Orders are. I just wanted to run these past others here to see what they thought, are these roughly the timber sizes you have been using.


1X6 lumber dimensions

S4S) usually measures ½” thick. The most common dimension sizes are 2xand 2x6. Our 1×clear redwood lumber is All-Heart with no sap wood. It is sold by the board in 8′ to 20′ lengths. Boards are a nice clear B grade and S4S where both sides and edges are planed smooth.


The B grade is reasonably clear, but allows for an occasional small tight knot and small. XDOUGLAS FIR AND BETTER SURFACED ON FOUR SIDES. Tongue and Groove is the most popular but a wider 1xpattern can be selected to have a more rustic appearance.

We supply our kiln-dried shiplap wood in 1x, 1x 1x1 and 1xsizes. Historically, the nominal dimensions were the size of the green (not dried), rough (unfinished) boards that eventually became smaller finished lumber through drying and planing (to smooth the wood). Large selection of stock sizes. Note: treated 1×(150mm x 25mm) and 2×(100mm x 50mm) actual size lumber usually means (rough) lumber before it has been dressed (surfaces, planed smooth). When purchasing lumber try to get as long a lengths as possible to minimize waste. The rough size of the lumber is x 4. If you have your own surfacing abilities you can purchase the wood in the rough and you MIGHT be able to get a thicker end result.
