Painted shiplap walls

The painted shiplap accent walls that I saw were not just limited to these dark rich colors. Once the shiplap walls were up and painted , the chipboard ceiling really stood out. To add more natural light we screwed bead board sheets to the ceiling joists.


The floors also got two coats of Behr Exterior semi-transparent waterproofing floor stain in Cape Cod Gray. Shiplap has slits and you can often see slivers from the wall behin so make the color consistent. Follow the same process for painting shiplap that you would for painting wood paneling. Here, painted shiplap walls add subtle texture to this open and brighten this airy living room. Here are some tips on garnishing your walls with shiplap, and polishing it with paint or stain.


Once you have bought your shiplap from a lumber company or home improvement store, you will need to sand down any large knots or imperfections. Personally, I think painted trim would look best against your shiplap wall and therefore I would paint the trim to match in that room as well. Our beach house walls were shiplap , but a beautiful unpainted natural wood. Our sheetrock walls are in awful shape, so I was going to paint them first with the same color I plan on painting the shiplap strips. I am painting the strips Behr’s Loft Space.


The walls are currently Sherwin Williams Killem Beige. The real shiplap we used overlapped so you couldn’t see any wall between the boards but you could see a slight gap which showed the the raw shiplap underneath. So yes, I did have my hubby run a small paint brush through those spaces so the raw wood was no longer visible.


Wood walls , planked walls , shiplap … doesn’t matter what you call it … it’s a definite do. You want to look for spaces that can handle additional texture or subtle design, like the kitchen or the living room. Since this is a super versatile tren it definitely has staying power.
