Install grounded outlet

Older homes often have two-pronged receptacles (sometimes referred to as outlets ) that should be replaced with a Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFI or GFCI) receptacle. The easiest way to upgrade an ungrounded 120V receptacle to get ground protection is to replace it with a GFCI outlet. A GFCI outlet installation does not protect equipment from power surges. Without a grounded outlet , that path is either through your appliance which will fry your TV, computer, microwave, etc. You may think that having a surge protector is enough, but surge protectors only work properly when attached to a grounded outlet. The act of installing a grounded outlet where there is no ground available is very misleading and just not safe.

Scaffolding examples

When scaffolding reading, for example , you might preview the text and discuss key vocabulary, or chunk the text and then read and discuss as you go. It functions well when applied alongside other strategies and works similarly to how scaffolding is used in construction. For example , I might show them a picture of something related to our lesson and ask them a question about it. Graphic organizers may not be an appropriate scaffold for every lesson, but they are for many!

The following examples will serve to illustrate a few common scaffolding strategies: The teacher gives students a simplified version of a lesson, assignment, or reading, and then gradually increases the complexity, difficulty, or sophistication over time. When the macro browser opens, select the macro, complete the dialog, and insert the macro. Select the Edit Contents link. Complete the fields provided. Support is tappered off (i.e. withdrawn) as it becomes unnecessary, much as a scaffold is removed from a building during construction. We recently wrote an article about the power of scaffolding and want to elaborate on it with a real world example. As you may recall scaffolding is a strategy where you make the activity in question challenging but doable.

Water condensation

Because condensation is a naturally occurring phenomenon, it can often be used to generate water in large quantities for human use. When water vapor cools in the atmosphere, for example, it condenses into tiny drops of water , which form clouds. During condensation , water vapor in the air changes from a gas to liquid water. The change of a gas or vapor to a liqui either by cooling or by being subjected to increased pressure.

In other words, the water in the air, a gas known as water vapor , from your hot shower cooled when it met. This change of state involves matter changing from a gas form to a liquid form because energy in the molecules involved was released. Improper ventilation and insulation of home attic space can produce high humidity levels and trap.

What causes water condensation on your panes and how do you stop it? We know that when you heat your house, you warm the air contained inside. This warmer air holds more moisture than cooler air. When the warm air meets a cold surface, the water molecules from the air get less “excited” and settle down. As the water vapor moves higher in the atmosphere, it begins to cool down.

As it cools, the vapor begins to condense into liquid form, which causes clouds. Condensation plays a vital role in the water cycle. The key to understanding condensation is the sources (for example plants transpire water vapor,) breathing (evaporation), rain(air humidity,) wet or soaked ground (capillary action), run-off(on rocks, logs, etc,) and how it builds up on cold surfaces.

Tray ceiling

Many new-construction homes feature tray ceilings , a feature which many homeowners are stumped as to how to highlight. In this bedroom, the walls were painted with a wet-look effect, as well as a slight change in color from the walls to the ceiling. A tray ceiling is a rectangular architectural feature that is either inverted or recessed. Tray ceilings can be plain, ornate, subtle or dramatic. Conservation glass

Picture framing glass (glazing, conservation glass , museum quality glass ) usually refers to flat glass or acrylic (plexi) used for framing artwork and for presenting art objects in a display box (also, conservation framing). As is the case with all conservation , it is necessary for the conservator to be able to recognize what the problems are and to know what may be used to counter them. When lead oxides are found during glass conservation they can be removed with percent nitric acid.

The conservation and restoration of glass objects is an activity dedicated to the preservation and protection of objects of historical and personal value made from glass. When applied to cultural heritage this activity is generally undertaken by a conservator-restorer. Over time, exposure to UV rays can cause irreversible damage to artwork.

To combat fading, discoloration and deterioration, we offer a range of UV-blocking glazings. In addition to addressing issues such as crizzling ( glass deterioration), they restore. Contact us to learn more about museum glass or to discuss your project.
