Insulate sill plate

Insulating the crawl space properly is a great way to not only save money but to make your home more comfortable. Many crawl space encapsulation contractors refuse to install any crawl space insulation much less go as far as air sealing the crawl space and insulating the rim joist and sill plate of the crawl space. R is minimum code here for that location, not sure of yours but really no reason to go less. Stuff a wad of fiberglass insulation into each opening to support the foam as it hardens (see Figure A in the Horizontal Callout). If you have a concrete block foundation, also seal the openings on top with expanding foam.

The point is that if you insulate the sill plate and rim joists, you need to make them completely airtight from interior air, which is moisture-bearing and can condense on them if you insulate them without cutting them off from interior air. Going to be insulating around the perimeter of my basement between the sill plate and the foundation. Curious which would work better here, caulking or expanding foam? Quickly and Easily Insulate Rim Joists. I had quotes to insulate rim joists in a rental house: $850!

Alternator ground wire

Battery to frame, battery to engine (as close as possible to the starter motor) and battery to body (preferable to the VR housing). I think that a PO had a ground problem and tried to solve it with a ground wire to the alternator. Your ground to go from your alternators ground post to the engine block is totally useless to do.

Alternator ground wire

Just go from either your engines alternator ground point to the negative of your battery or take a grounding point from your engine to the negative of your battery. Either way it will be a good grounding point. BIG Upgrade with Gauge Welding Wire. Im simply asking if I can create a new ground by attaching a wire from the alternator to the negative terminal of the battery. Since I am running a new power wire from the alternators output stud to the battery I also add a new (same size as the power wire ) ground wire from this threaded hole to the battery negative post.

If the alternator is not grounded the circuit cannot be completed to allow it to work properly. Wow, and I thought the ground was a single wire ! Thanks, I do get the picture, makes sense. Based upon that I think you would , erm. The one cable went form the battery to the alternator , NO other ground cable connected to the battery.

The vehicle becomes the ground , and since the alternator is physically attached to the engine, the case of the alternator becomes the ground.

Butcher block stain

Butcher block stain

Apply stain to every surface of the butcher block : top, sides, and bottom (if any wood overhangs the cabinets below the butcher block ). Paint in long strokes that go along with the direction of the wooden slats. We had a birch butcher block in the. And now for how to stain and seal butcher block counters…or rather, how not to… The very first thing I did was sand the butcher block down to bare wood using a pad sander, coarse grit sandpaper, and a dust extractor. Removing stains from butcher block countertops can be a challenge.

One good dinner party with friends and an unattended red wine stain is there to stay. Once your butcher block has arrive keep it in its packaging until you’re ready to start working with it – I repeat, don’t open the boxes and leave your untreated butcher block laying around. Without proper sealing, butcher block can warp if wet and you realllly don’t want that to happen. Dip a soft cloth into the solution and sponge it onto the stain to work it out of the wood.

When the stain was completely dry, I was ready to seal the wood. This is the decision that I really struggled with the most…how to seal the butcher block countertops. You can stain butcher block countertops using wood stain with suspension agents, like water and alcohol, or with wood stain with finishing agents, like lacquer or polyurethane.

Stucco over foam

My clients like the look and durability of a traditional cement-based three-coat stucco finish, but they want it installed over a continuous layer of rigid foam. Install stucco as an exterior wall cladding over rigid foam insulation with proper preparation to provide water management as well as a sound substrate for the stucco. Determine the location of the wall’s water control layer (typically behind the insulation over the exterior sheathing). It can also be applied to woo whether painted or not, but this requires first attaching lath, which is a sturdy metal mesh. The stucco installer (who has been doing this for over years) blames the fact that the builder did not leave gaps between each sheet of OSB on the exterior of the house.

Something I guess is suggested with OSB and not CDX. It can change your home from something average to something extraordinary looking by creating trims and accents where there were none before. Installing the foam for a one coat stucco system is probably one of the easiest things to do, as far as lath in general is concerned.

Roofing nails are used to fasten the foam to the wall but only about 4-are needed per piece of 4’x8′ foam. There is a great concern about air leakage in homes and buildings, and foam insulation products have proven to lower the power bill by over.

Plaster walls in older homes are often plagued by cracks and other defects such as pitting and uneven texture. For finishing, you’ll need primer and paint.

Reattaching plaster with broken keys - the plaster that squishes through the cracks in the lath and then hardens to hold the plaster in place - is a multistep process. The first step in repairing cracks is cleaning them out. Use a five-way tool or other scraping device (Image 1).

If you have holes or cracks in your plaster walls or ceilings, repairing them isn’t difficult. It can, however, require a bit more extra time and skill than patching a hole in drywall.

Peralite

Horticultural, construction, industrial. Always on stock any quantity. Perlite Light weight Perlite in-stock. It occurs naturally and has the unusual property of greatly expanding when heated sufficiently.

While both perlite and vermiculite aid in water retention, perlite is the more porous and tends to allow water to drain much more readily than vermiculite. Great addition to any potting soil for root aeration. Plants that require moist, nutrient-rich soil grow better in vermiculite mixes, while those that prefer dry or quick-draining soil are more likely to thrive in a perlite -based mix. Rapidly heating perlite ore to temperatures of about 900°C (700°F) softens the volcanic glass causing entrapped water molecules in the rock to turn to steam and expand the particles like popcorn.
