Can you put a refrigerator on carpet

Placing a refrigerator on carpet is not recommended. Carpeting obstructs the flow of air to the condenser, located at the bottom of the refrigerator. Carpets also retain heat, which prevents the condenser and compressor from cooling properly and causes the compressor to overwork.


The refrigerator is designed to be placed on tile, concrete or a similar hard surface. The air circulation under the refrigerator will normally be inhibited when the unit is placed on carpet. Examine the seal on the door for any holes of leaks.
